Interceptor PLUS for your dog!

We are excited to announce that we now carry Interceptor Plus!

This product is our number one recommendation for Heartworm and Intestinal Parasite prevention by our veterinarians.

What is Interceptor Plus?

Interceptor Plus is our old favorite heartworm preventative, with the same protection against whipworms,, roundworms, and hookworms, now with the added benefit of treating for tapeworms!

Dogs most commonly get tapeworms from fleas.  Simply put, a flea larvae ingests a tapeworm egg.  Both the flea and the tapeworm egg mature together, and when your dog ingests the adult flea while grooming or in response to the flea's bite, the mature infective tapeworm is ingested as well.  Transmission can occur if your dog ingests a rodent infested with fleas or tapeworms.

Tapeworm eggs are rarely seen on a microscopic intestinal parasite screen, so they are not treated for unless actual tapeworm segments are seen in your dog's stool.  With a monthly dose of Interceptor Plus, your dog will be protected against tapeworms all year round.

Why are we recommending Interceptor Plus instead of Sentinel?

  • Interceptor Plus is less expensive for our clients
  • It provides better coverage for intestinal parasites
  • Our doctors have trusted Interceptor for almost 15 years
  • We only transitioned from Interceptor to Sentinel because we were unable to get Interceptor for a period of time due to upgrades made to manufacturing plants

What else do you need to know?

  • Interceptor Plus is a soft, chicken flavored chewable tablet.  If your dog has a known allergy to chicken, please consult with your veterinarian about what heartworm/intestinal parasite preventative would be the best choice for you!
  • Interceptor Plus should be given every month on a year round basis.
  • Rebates available!  Buy 6 doses, get $5, buy 12 doses, get $15.
