Dr. Sara Yarnall Sanders, DVM
At
the age of 11, leaving a Cornell University football game with her
father, Sara Yarnall looked across the fields to the Veterinary College
and imagined being a veterinarian. She sustained this dream through
summers on a dairy farm in Norway, and though it met with various
doubts and obstacles, it stayed alive through her twenties, when she
married and started a family.
After a few years of intense preparation, Sara entered the Cornell
Veterinary School in 1994, when her children were six and eight. In
1998, after four years of weekdays away from her family and weekends
with them and two summer internships at Mendon Village Animal Hospital,
she received her DVM degree, along wit the prestigious Malcolm E.
Miller award, recognizing her "perseverance, scholastic diligence, and
dedication to the service of others."
Sara came to Mendon Village Animal Hospital in 2001, after three years
at Clark Animal Care Center in Penfield, NY; and here she has enjoyed
the patients and clients, as well as her Mendon colleagues and visiting
specialists. Since 1999, Dr. Sanders has been a member of the Advisory
Council of the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell University
- a research facility most famous for developing the Parvovirus and
Distemper vaccines that save thousands of canine lives each year. She
is also on the board of the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medicine
Association where she is the chair of the continuing education program.
Besides being a veterinarian, Sara is an avid reader, tennis-player,
and dog walker. She has two Airedale terriers Simon and Tana both born
